Blupimania 1: How to download and play.

UPDATE: The English version has been found! Thanks to Roli.
UPDATES SOON!

Blupimania is a game that has been lost due to lack of interest and overshadowing by its sequel, Blupimania 2.
While unknown to me for a while, Blupimania 1 has been available on the internet by some tech enthusiasts for a while now. However finding it and using it isn’t very simple as the site and game, are in French and you must use a virtual OS to access it, which is also in French.
However I am here to help, this page will tell you (in English) how you can get the “Smacky OS” running on your computer which includes the game “Blupimania”.

Installation

  • First you must download the Smacky Infini Installer from the original host.
  • Install the program: Keep clicking “Yes” and “Suivant >“(Next >).
  • Change the install location if you wish. (First Screen)

  • Wait for it to complete. It may take a few minutes, be patient.

Getting Started
Here’s where it gets tricky.

  • Once you have finished installing, Open Smacky Infini from your start menu.
  • It takes a few seconds/minutes to start up.
You should be presented with a screen like this:
  • First click the 1 circled in blue, which should present you with a few options. Select “4bpp: 16 couleurs” (Which I assume means 4 bits per pixel, 16 colours) any higher doesn’t help, and lower makes it look bad.
  • Then click “MODELE” circled in red.
  • A “#MODELE” window should open at the bottom of the screen, click the “TOTOS” Folder.
  • Then the “BLUPIMANIA” Folder in the “#TOTOS” Window.
  • And finally, click “BLUPI_X.CODE” in the “#BLUPIMANIA” Window.
  • On the pop-up click “DEMARRE“.
  • You’ve successfully gotten into BLUPIMANIA.

Playing Blupimania

  • Click anywhere on the first screen to continue.
  • The next screen is the profile screen, either select an existing profile or create a new one by clicking an empty box and inputing your name.
  • Click “Jouer” to continue.
  • Next is the main menu.
  • Orange tiles indicate levels, ranging in difficulty 1-4
  • Clicking a regular blupi will start up the AI levels, where you must build to save them, like a 2.5d lemmings.
  • Clicking a blupi with an antenna will start up control levels, where you must save the blupis with a blupi in control.
  • The blupi with the pencil on the red 5 tiles will take you to the level creator.
  • The machine will take you to options.
  • The door will quit blupimania (go back to Smacky main screen)
  • For this example I will be starting with AI level 1-1.
  • This is the level select screen, you can switch between the levels with the controls in the top right. (If available)
  • Below that is the progress bar, showing what the current level brings your progress to. (For example level 5/10 would show 50%)
  • On the left is the description, if you can read French…
  • “Jouer” will start the game, and “Stopper” will bring you back to the main menu.
  • Here is an example of the HUD for an AI game.
  • At the top left is your items list, click to select an item, and click on the screen to place it.
  • Below that is the blupi status information, hover your pointer over a blupi to see its status.
  • Below that is the camera controls. Forward, Back, Left, Right, Center. Pretty Simple.
  • And at the bottom is STOP which quits, Pause which pauses, and Floppy which saves and loads. (I haven’t bothered trying to get this work)
  • This is the Control UI.
  • It’s almost the same except the camera controls are replaced with a remote control.
  • You can control the Blupi with these forward, back, turn left, turn right, or the corresponding arrow keys on your keyboard.
  • Although I find that control method a bit confusing and tedious.
  • The better alternative is simply clicking where you want the blupi to go.
  • NOTE:

  • On the level complete screen “Suivant” means next level “Stopper” means quit.
  • On the STOP screen “Recommencer” means restart “Stopper” means quit.

This text was very useful, I finally managed to run one of my fav games ;)
Unfortunately I don’t know how to make the window larger – it is very small and I can’t find the right option. Is it possible to run the game in full screen mode?
